Take the plunge at the Taupō Across the Lake Swim

Lake swimming is a particularly refreshing experience. Go big at Taupō, New Zealand’s largest lake. Since 1963, Taupō’s Across the Lake Swim, the region’s longest-running event, has attracted thousands of swimmers from around New Zealand. Each summer, clad in compulsory wetsuits, participants splash the 4.2 kilometres from Acacia Bay to Three Mile Bay in cold, fresh water. It’s a challenging swim, but not too gruelling to put off the repeat competitors who return each year. For the less athletic, there are shorter one and two-kilometre courses to test your mettle. The Across the Lake Swim is an iconic event with the added bonus of giving back, as proceeds from the day contribute to community projects in the Great Lake Taupō region. AA AATraveller Must Done
